Overview

Vaccines and pathogens have different intended consequences, yet they elicit similar physiological changes in the individual. How does the body respond if both events happen concurrently in an individual?
Your task is to discuss how does the immune system utilizes the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems to defend the host against invasion of pathogens.

Instructions

  1. An individual finds himself infected by a previously undiscovered pathogen, Transmissio. Prepare a written paper of at least 1000 words that examines the defense system of the body through the following bullet points.
    1. What is the body’s initial response? What are long term effects?
    2. Describe the direct players (cells and organs) that participate in the innate vs. adaptive immune response.
    3. Mention through what conduit soluble or mobile immune factors reach and interact with the pathogen.
    4. Predict the consequences of administering the MMR vaccine in this individual if he is currently infected by Transmissio.
  2. Your paper should be formatted as a proper research paper with an introduction and conclusion. Do not simply follow the bullet points above, but really think about what you have learned and how that relates to other material we have covered, and knowledge you have from other courses you may have taken. The Research and Report assignments in this course are capstone assignments for each module. You should be integrating everything that you learned in the textbook, explorations, discussions, and lab activities into your papers.
