In June 2010 the Financial Reporting Council published The UK Corporate Governance Code. This states that “The purpose of corporate governance is to facilitate effective, entrepreneurial and prudent management that can deliver the long-term success of the company”.

A survey conducted by McKinsey & Company Inc. found that “… governance is at least equal importance to reporting financial performance for foreign investors in many regions, because of misgivings about the quality of corporate reporting”.
