You have examined the concept of cognitive dissonance and its relationship to beliefs and values. Now, how do you make cognitive dissonance work for you in a positive way?  In order to thoughtfully participate in our conversation, please review the article on  Cognitive Dissonance Theory  (Links to an external site.).

Your Initial Post:

Imagine that you’re a corporate trainer who has been asked to lead a seminar on Cognitive Dissonance Theory.  You want to begin the seminar with a personal story highlighting how Cognitive Dissonance has worked for you in a positive way.

Recall a scenario in which you have experienced resistance to obtaining a goal based on previously held attitudes (either your own or others’).  Based on this scenario, use the questions below to craft your story.  Please be mindful that your story may be personal, but your audience is professional.

· How can you employ the concept of cognitive dissonance in your particular situation?

· Why did you choose to employ the strategy you suggested? (Support your response with research from the readings or elsewhere).

· What type(s) of reactions did you anticipate when employing your strategy? How would you cope with these reactions? (Support your response with research from the readings or elsewhere).
