  1. 1 You have two computers connected by an Ethernet hub at home. Is this a LAN, a MAN, or a WAN? Explain your reason. (20)

 

  1. 2 Suppose a computer sends a packet at the network layer to another computer somewhere in the Internet. The logical destination address of the packet is corrupted. What happens to the packet? How can the source computer be informed of the situation? (20)

 

  1. 3 (a) What is the bandwidth of the composite signal shown in Figure.        (20)

 

         (b)     A signal travels from point A to point B. At point A, the signal power is 100 W. At point B, the power is 90 W. What is the attenuation in decibels?

 

  1. 4 Define Transmission medium. What is the position of the transmission media in the OSI or the Internet model? Also illustrate different guided and unguided medium in detail. (20)

 

  1. 5 (a) Compare and contrast PCM and DM.                                                  (20)

(b)     What are the differences between parallel and serial transmission?

(c)     In a digital transmission, the sender clock is 0.2 percent faster than the receiver clock. How many extra bits per second does the sender send if the data rate is 1 Mbps?
