Purpose:
Students will identify and apply cross cultural counselling competencies through the analysis of
major presenting problems that a character from one of the three film options may bring to
counselling. The case study will include issues such as racism, discrimination, prejudice and
privilege, as well as effective therapeutic approaches and potential challenges.
Process:
Choose one film from the three options given below and write a case study centred on a key
character. Identify any elements of racism, discrimination, prejudice and privilege. Identify the
major presenting problems that the character may bring to counselling, possible effective
therapeutic approaches for this client, and the challenges that you might encounter personally
and professionally in working therapeutically with the client.
